From the South/A1 - As you enter the outskirts of Edinburgh, you pass a shopping centre on your left. Go straight ahead at the first roundabout and then take the first exit at the next roundabout (Milton Road East - this takes to the centre of Edinburgh). Follow this road for about a mile (it becomes Willowbrae Road). Eventually you come to a junction at which the main traffic turns Left (this area is called Jock's Lodge and you are not aloud to turn right at this junction). Follow the traffic left onto London Road and drive straight on until you reach a roundabout (you will pass Meadowbank Sports Centre on the right, then about 1/2 a mile further on a hillside park on your left). At the roundabout take the first exit (you will pass the Playhouse Theatre on your left). Very quickly you reach a second much larger roundabout. As you approach this roundabout, make sure you are in the right hand lane and take the second exit. The second exit takes you in two directions, so take care. Again, as you leave the roundabout, make sure you are in the right-hand lane so that you can join the traffic going down the hill (Broughton Street). Take the first left off Broughton St (Albany St). At the end of Albany St go straight over the crossroad - this is Abercromby Place.

From the Forth Road Bridge - Follow the signs to the town centre and stay resolutely on the Queensferry Road. About a mile from the centre, you dip down and up through an area called Blackhall. Shortly after you emerge from the dip, you will see a Hilton Hotel high on the hill on the right hand side and an Esso garage. On the left hand side, there is a small row of shops and then at the junction a series of left turns (there is no opportunity to turn right at this junction). The second left exit would take you down to a shopping complex. The exit you require is the third left hand exit, which looks more like a left hand fork in the road (Craigleith Road) and is signposted Stockbridge. Follow this road to a roundabout at the bottom of the hill and go straight over. Drive through Stockbridge (there are lots of small shops). Eventually you will come to a cross-roads (there is a Pizza Express restaurant at the LHS and diagonally to the right is some open concrete covered land. Go straight over at this crossroad and follow the winding road up the hill. The main traffic bears to the right as you continue up the hill - stay with it (Howe St). Continue on until you come to a junction with a park on the side opposite (corner of Queen Street Gardens and Heriot Row). Turn left onto Heriot Row and go straight over at the next traffic lights. This is Abercromby Place.

You will pass the zoo on the left hand side and about 2 miles later, Donaldsons School which is a huge Victorian Gothic fantasy built in extensive grounds (the road is called variously Glasgow Road, St John's Road, Corstorphine Road, Roseburn Terrace and
Wester Coates. Finally, you approach the centre of town and pass the Haymarket Station on the right hand side. At the next junction, keep following the road straight-ahead (West Maitland, Shandwick Place). As you enter Shandwick Place, and as soon as the bus lane finishes, make sure you get into the left-hand lane. This quickly brings you to the end of Princes St (you are not allowed to drive down Princes St - only buses and taxis). Regular traffic is forced to turn left onto Charlotte Square. Continue on over the square (still in the left-hand lane) until you come to a T-junction. Traffic must turn right here onto Queen Street. At the third set of traffic lights (the first being a pedestrian crossing) turn left (you should have park on both sides). At the next set of traffic lights turn right onto Abercromby Place.

You will pass the Kings Theatre onyour right and the Cameo cinema on your left. The next junction after the cinema is large and complex. It has a large modern office building on the diagonal corner opposite. Make sure you are in the middle lane and you are still aiming straight ahead (Lothian Road). You will pass the Filmhouse Cinema on the left hand side and the round Usher Hall on the right hand side. At the end of Lothian Road there is a T junction. Again make sure you stay in the middle lane and turn right towards Princes St and then quickly left onto Charlotte Square. From the South/A7/A68 - Keep driving toward the city centre on the Old Dalkeith Road. Eventually you will pass the Royal Commonwealth Pool on the right hand side and an all dark glass modern building shortly after. Keep straight on (the road becomes St. Leonard's St, then Pleasance). The road begins to narrow and you will approach a junction at the bottom of a hill (junction of Pleasance and Holyrood Road). Continue straight ahead and again at the next set of traffic lights. The road then begins to bear left and become quite narrow because of parked cars (Jeffrey St). At the T-junction bear left again (this takes you behind the train station). At the mini-roundabout turn right (now in front of the train station) and at the next junction make sure that you are positioned so that you can turn left onto Princes St and make a zigzag cross over Princes St into St David's Street. This leads into St Andrew Square.
Continue straight over St Andrew Square until you reach a T-junction (Queen St). Turn right onto Queen St which almost immediately becomes York Place. Turn left down the first possible street (a narrow lane called York Lane) and turn left again onto Albany Street. At the next crossroads, go straight over and this is Abercromby Place.
